$299 Laptops: Specifications of 299 Dollar Laptop Computers

New $299 laptops are available on the market but they come with 7 inch screens and 2 GB hard drives. If you want a new regular-sized laptop computer with at least an 80 GB hard drive then you're going to have to bump up your budget to at least $399. Ebay and some other computer auctions are the only places I can think of where you could find 299 dollar laptop computers. Keep in mind that $299 laptops sold on auction sites are most likely used with the actual condition depending on the seller and whether any refurbishment or recertification gets completed before shipment.

It's important to note that there are new desktop computers on the market that start at $199 and are plenty suitable for surfing the internet safely, checking and sending email, listening to and burning CDs, watching DVDs, and downloading or saving a reasonable amount of files. The lowest-priced laptops typically go for $399 although Asus does produce the 7 inch model that starts at $299(remember it only
has 2 GB hard drive space). If you desire the cheapest laptop possible and want a secure connection to the internet then I recommend checking out the options outlined further below and purchasing either a $399 regular-sized new laptop, a $299 mini Asus laptop, or a $199 new or refurbished desktop computer. The bottom line is that new $299 laptops are available but they are small and are primarily useful for surfing the web and checking or sending email. The minimal hard drive storage capacity limits the amount of productivity work that can be performed with the mini Asus laptop. If you're open to buying a desktop computer instead of a laptop or if you can increase your budget to $399, then you can easily get a brand new full-sized laptop or a new desktop that includes the features and functionality required to get online and browse the internet safely and with speed. Here are four options worth checking out:

$299 laptops at Newegg - Normally has the mini Asus laptops in stock starting at $299. Usually has at least one new laptop computer priced at $399 with more laptops priced at $499. Often has a new $199 Everex desktop computer in stock.

TigerDirect - Typically carries the mini Asus laptops starting at $299. Frequently has one or more wireless refurbished laptops priced near $399. Always has ten to twenty refurbished desktop computers priced from $160 to $200.

Walmart - Usually has one or more new laptops priced just under $400. I have seen new laptop computers go for as little as $349 at Walmart which also typically stocks a new $199 Everex desktop computer.

Dell - You won't find $299 laptops at Dell, but you can often buy a refurbished Dell desktop computer for close to or slightly under $200. More Dell desktop options become available closer to the $300 level. It's worth checking out if you're open to buying a desktop instead of a laptop. Once at the Dell Outlet Store use the drop-down box on the left-hand side of the page to go directly to the "Inspiron" desktops stockroom. Then use the various drop-down boxes to narrow your search further or click on the "Price" column to sort the Dell desktop deals from lowest to highest price.

New $299 laptops are designed for web surfing, sending and receiving email, and a minimal amount of downloading or file saving. The cheapest new and refurbished full-sized laptops with standard hard drive capacities offer the latest word processor and spreadsheet capabilities and can be found at major online computer stores.
